Song of the Prophets

Over the moon that this beautiful project came together. The indomitable Chineke! Orchestra commissioned me to compose the opening movement of a four movement work to highlight climate change alongside Christian Aid.

‘Creation’, the opening movement of ‘Song of the Prophets’ brings to life the imagery and energy evoked in Genesis 1, Chapters 1-5 of the Holy Bible which tells us that ,

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. It then later continues with, And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  The initial textural gestures of the string parts imitate the dark void, followed by unifying chords that make way for the emergence of a repeated rhythmical riff that to my mind showcases the ‘light’ from God’s instruction for ‘light’ to exist. The conclusion of the piece illustrates how the light, once in place reveals the foundation of the land that has just been formed. From nothing, to light to land – my creation.
